VISITING EXPERTS

 

DAY 1: We anticipate a period of about 5 hours.

Departure from the stables of the 'Farm PoggioAione, after a short stretch through wooded landscapes and countryside, we go down to the river Fiora, skirting and you cross the river several times until you reach the nearby Etruscan area.

And 'here that takes a real journey back in time you will be thrown into the hollow way of Poggio Prisca , an 'ancient and very suggestive road carved into the tuff, and then on to the famous Hildebrand Tomb (actually not a tomb but an ancient Etruscan temple ).

Here bind the horses for a little break during which you will have the possibility to admire the Etruscan ruins.

Continue to inland until you reach Sovana .. the small country rich in history, home to the Pope Hildebrand, well-groomed, well worth a tourist visit and why not even a snack with typical local products.

There are places on the way back again to the ford of the river and going to the village of Catabbio.

 

2nd DAY: we expect 8 hours of hiking

Departure from PoggioAione to the nearby village of Poggio huts, go down to the ford of the river in the direction of the Albenga necropolis of the strut , picturesque place of Etruscan burial today surrounded by a forest of sycamores. After a short visit we go back again the river to reach the 'village of Saturnia by Porta Fiorentina, go through the village and exit from Porta Romana through the ancient Via Clodia, an original Roman pavement where legend and folk songs narrate both past even the mighty Orlando.

Via Clodia leads directly to the waterfalls of the Mill , the destination of many tourists looking for an impressive swim in the famous thermal waters.

We can stop, time permitting, to take a nice hot bath and purifier.

It starts in the way of "White Rocks" to the village of Poggio Murella and return to Catabbio.

 

 

3rd DAY: We expect about 5 hours of hiking

Departure from Catabbio from the stables to the famous Olivone , or rather what remains of a 1500 year old olive tree with a trunk diameter of nearly 10 meters from vandals burned a few years ago.

It continues through the medieval village of Rocchetta di Fazio , a cluster of houses and a small castle on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of the river Albegna.

We stop for a short visit and again in the Maremma countryside at a time the capital Semproniano through streets you will return to the country of Catabbio through ancient streets in the middle of a small cluster of homes now carefully restored by those who want to enjoy a truly relaxing holiday in an unspoilt area of the Tuscan Maremma.

 

4th DAY : We expect a period of 8 hours

Departure from PoggioAione always going through the typical Tuscan country, fording the river Fiora we head towards the Mount Penna up to 1100 meters, the path is long and the climb is tough for our horses, we are in the mountains, the vegetation changes .. firs, beech, chestnut tall trees .. an extraordinarily scenic and mostly untouched nature.

Can be reached in the 'plateau our friends from the riding " The Cornacchino ', a' company which develops in old mercury mines of Monte Amiata.

Here we have lunch and stop in a convivial atmosphere and certainly with great food. Even horses remarry after a strenuous climb.

It falls along fascinating paths and trails typical home.

 

5th DAY: We expect a 5 hour hike

Check out more from the stables of PoggioAione, crossing the spots typical of the area under the castle of Catabbiaccio and you reach the river Fiora, but this time to the north for a visit to 'farm to Cortevecchia the 'farm' s largest Italy, 2500 hectares of valleys and fields as far as d 'eye, with herds of horses and cows in the wild.

This excursion is definitely dedicated to those who are carried away by 'emotion and the' incredible experience of finding themselves in the midst of a magical nature, rich in scents and colors, free and wild animals, ancient Tuscan farmhouses lost in the midst of acres of land , a fascinating walk that you will dream again when you return to town.

It starts at Poggio Monte through the Tuscan countryside, rich in many varied landscapes and fascinating, ever-changing colors of nature wild and simple people.

The first day ends so coming back to the stables after an exploratory walk of our land and marshes.
